Condensing recent NHS news for you!
#1-New proposal by Wale's health secretary- Jeremy Miles, to reduce NHS Wales' waiting list
Patients who miss hospital appointment twice or more would be put to the back of the queue on the waiting list and be referred back to GP
People are being asked to loose weight or exercise more to be deemed fit for surgery in order to be placed on the waiting list. This was according to statistics which suggest that those fit and well before surgery undergo a faster recovery after surgery
Criticisms
❌ "fear of weight stigma" could prevent someone from getting help
❌ Hard to get hold of people to cancel and reschedule appointment- this issue should be addressed first
#2 Shortage of beds + lack of support after discharge
Richard McMann, a cyclist who suffered a brain injury from a crash felt a lack of support after being discharged from the hospital
links to concern about the chronic shortage of bed for patient with brain injuries
lack of funding for neurorehabilitation centre = patients are not getting the rehabilitation they need post-brain injury
#3 "Placeholder Job"
After four years of med school, Jayne Evans and many others still don't know where their first permanent NHS position will be
They are only told the rough part of country they will be in for their foundation jobs
With only a few weeks left, this meant that it was very difficult for them to plan for their life + accommodation
NHS's response = they have reassured those in this situation with support from their foundation school during the wait and will work closely to solve this problem ASAP
