Book Recommendation- Do No Harm

One of the most interesting and influencial books that I have read related to medicine is called 'Do No Harm' by Henry March.

What is this book about?

This book provides a real insight into the life of a neruosurgeon. Rather than glorifying the medical profession, Marsh reveals the uncertainity, emotional toll and ethical dillemas that come with operating the brain- the seat of a person's identity, personaillity and memories. He goes as far to share the many times that he is haunted by decisions he has made that have changed patient's lives forever...

As a future medic, why should you read it?

  • Realistic insight into medicine Marsh doesn't sugarcoat the medical profession- he shows the real challenges, communication and pressures docotors face, especially in high-stake fields like neurosurgery.

  • The human side of medicine The book shows patients as people not just cases. It emphasises empathy, communication, and the emotional bonds between doctors and patients.

  • Ethical Awareness March is faced with many tough moral desicions- when to operate and when not to, and having to deal with the life-long consequences of both.

  • Exposure to Neuroscience If you are curious about the brain, the book gives fascinating insights into neurosurgery and just how complex and fragile the brain is.

Let me know your thoughts on this amazing book too!
